Heavy duty “S” hooks.

Chaps,

Currently pulling one of our 34’ artic trailers. As they’re fitted with Command Steer rear axles that steer via the unit, they’re a most excellent piece of kit and will access sites that a rigid lorry can’t. Sadly, the manufacturers didn’t think to fit them with rope hooks, just a piece of 20mm bar on both sides, as per the photo, so Mr Dinosaur struggles to rope things on.

If I had the time, I’d happily make a jig and hot spanner some bar, but I haven’t, so does anyone know of a supplier of said hooks that one end will hook over the 20mm bar leaving the other end to tie a rope on? Edit: No great strength required, only needed for tying the sheet down, won’t be used for ratchets.

That's just was I was going to suggest as a temporary measure!

Good suggestion, but if I have to put shackles on the bar then thread the rope through the shackles, I might as well just thread it round the bar like so:













The reason for using S hooks is that it will be simpler and quicker, ie, hook one end of the S hook over the bar and loop the knot over the other end. Probably take less time than it took me to type this, lol. Basically I’m after a form of “temporary” rope hook that will stay in my wagon for my use only.

How about a snap on carabiner to just clip on, would need to get decent climbing ones not the cheap keyring tat

I think you will keep dropping the S hooks and curse them

I think the problem you will have with S hooks is the possibility of them slipping off because one side will always be hanging the wrong way so any slack and it could fall. The other issue you could have is on a DVSA inspection they may want to see evidence of a rating.

How a bout a clip hook? Spring steel clips over the bar and gives you a rope eye.
