Heater thermostat? Smart thingy?

We have a panel heater on the wall that we would like to keep, but the dumb controller is broken. Theres nothing wrong with the heater element or heat output. It still works but the display is gone.

Im wondering if theres any smart/phone controllable thermostat things I could wire it to, or even another dumb one.

I remember a few on here were playing with home automation and connected devices?

Can you safely wire in an analogue thermostat with a dial/knob and control the on/off with a smart plug?

A generic oven thermostat with a wire probe that can be located sensibly and appropriate range should do.

I've got a spare underfloor heating controller somewhere in the shed that would do it, basic non wifi one. I switched my UFH to a heatmiser neostat to fit in with the rest of the house. I can try and have a look for it tomorrow but am in bed with what seems to be covid so might not happen quickly. You can have it for cost of postage assuming I can find it.

The unpopular option was to rehome my melter control box/furnace but they dont like it..

Not made by me, I just want to show it off. Mum's just finished another animal chalk bag, jellyfish this time. She's gonna try sticking it on Etsy for silly money and seeing if there's any interest. :D

Worst case I could likely fit another of the industrial PID controllers and I believe they do compact ones that would fit easier.

We dont need much in the way of smart features, what would be nice is if we could set a base temperature of say, 16c or 17c and have it reset to that every evening at 11pm. It often gets turned up to 22c or something silly and then left with noone in the room, followed by all windows open wide each morning for fresh air, wasting all the heat.

Ladies in my experience have no idea what a thermostat is. Just a fancy on/off switch is the best that some can do.

I managed to get to the shed today, and I cannot find the thing. I am getting flashbacks to my Wife asking why I was keeping it, so it may be gone. I actually had two as there was a floor level issue and I had to rip the first kit out relay it all etc.

I was only out there a couple of minutes as I still feel awful, will have a proper look when I feel better, but it might be an idea to look elsewhere I'm afraid.

A slight "bonus" was that it was raining and i found water inside the shed where a board at the back has completely rotted out, wouldn't have found it if I hadn't been searching at the bottom of the shelving. Accellerates the repair/rebuild plan at least.

In the event I find it I'll let you know.
