Heater for workshop…?

Around 400 square foot to heat. Only planning to use the heater when spray painting in there, otherwise I can live with the cold. That said economy is paramount as is the cost of purchasing the unit.

That’s all been done, the whole lot, insulation and booth with filtration and extraction. The insulation for the building is 50mm polystyrene but seems to work ok.

A lot of folk use them in workshops and sheds etc. you can use the exhaust in the kits and longer ones are available i think, need to see the instruction for max length you can fit.

for good help and info if your on facebook there are few pages that deal with these heaters.

A nice infra red heater you can aim at wherever your working just makes life so more bearable. Otherwise you need to burn heating oil in something?

Just took delivery of one that’s self contained in a suitcase type affair. It’s so I can take it where I’m working and be warm. Even on a machine I build a tent if it’s outside and the weather is brutal. I can also use it in the workshop once I’ve put an exhaust in.

Haulier I work for has an Infrasun (I think) that runs on red diesel. It’s good to be fair. 20l lasts me 3 8 hour days.

Another customer has a waste oil burner. He got caught burning oil by SEPA and now burns kero in it. It’s greedy and it stinks.

Mate has infra red lamps like a chicken shed in his workshop. Efficient as they heat you not the room but the down side is they don’t seem to keep damp and condensation at bay.

Friends have those I know for at least 5 some the boxed type others no case.
We put the first one in so exhaust went into a 150mm x 10Mtr thick wall pipe to recover waste heat, after running for an hour or so pipe is about 20 deg
It is good on heating oil, none have given trouble, the first bleed, read the instructions carefully.

With the Chinese Diesel Heaters, ignore the 2kw and the 8kw is really a 5kw with an 8kw sticker. Make sure you have a good battery or minimum 12v 20amp supply.

I would juat use a inverter for running 12v on mains

they use it for the dog workshop build they did for the mrs

im aware of rocket stove that would heat that area but its a build most dont want to build no electric usage only wood

all depends on whats your easy access to materials mines wood so can use that

I have 3 x 2kw, wall mounted electric heaters in my 800 sq. ft. shed and they keep it well toasty, certainly warm enough to paint in. They take an hour or so to get the place warmed up (cue timers!) at this time of year , but once warm, it stays warm (cue thermostatic control!) without them constantly being on.

Also, no moisture!

For info, shed is of timber construction, plywood lined, and has 100mm rockwool insulation all round.

No it is actually 4kw. Still exceptional value though.
I wish it used MORE fuel - then it would put out more heat!

I see that has a flue on top. Are they tricky to install?

The flue will go through the wall and exhaust outside.

If this is for use when painting, wouldn't it need to not involve a flame?

I have a wood burner in mine, but don't use it when spraying. I don't spray much though so no big deal.
If have thought if spraying, electric, and no fan, would be the only option?
