We had our normal Tuesday night bell ringing practice last night, the ringing chamber is fairly small so with 6 people ringing and a couple sitting out it can be quite intimate.
Phil normally rings the 4th bell but as he has a dodgy shoulder he moved to the lighter 3rd bell, he's a big bloke and halfway through a method he must have caught the light switch with his elbow plunging the ringing chamber into complete darkness!
6 ropes going up and down, in total darkness and 6 ringers trying to catch the Sally as it goes up past their noses!
The 6th rope is attached to the tenor which weighs 18cwt or nearly a ton in new money!
Apart from alot of expletives not normally heard in a church every one managed to stand their bell without any incident but a liftable flap to cover the light switch is on my list of jobs for the weekend.
