Recently tried to set up a new Wi-Fi Epson printer without total success, so before returning it to the retailer I went on to Google and rang what was shown as Epson help line. The guy who took the call told me that the problem wasn't with the printer but with my computer Windows OS, alarmingly some 1700 faults caused by emails sent by someone very recently, as my computer was online he sent me what seemed to be all the faults in red which didn't mean a thing to me. However I became more suspicious when he said they had a Windows specialist who would remove all the faults, this would take two or three days. Then it came, the charge would be £140 plus vat to clear the faults, then another larger sum to ensure they didn't re-occur within a month, then a much larger sum for lifetime cover of my computer. I asked him for his contact details which he didn't give. I suppose some would have been panicked into coughing up. The printer fault was corrected by re-installing wired.
