I was trying to insinuate that I actually think he has had a good idea, and put it successfully into practice, and that it might be you that doesn't get it, rather than him.

He has addressed a problem that I have encountered myself a few times (albeit on a larger scale) and engineered a solution to it. The title of your thread - ironically containing at least two errors - which was started entirely to criticise what he has done it seems, is more befitting of the person who wrote it than the person he was aiming it at.

Not bad for a single character, don't you think?

Well I suppose you get more control of the knife that way (with practice) and most drill and lathe tool sharpening is best done (in the absence of a tool grinder!) on the side of a grinding wheel with a light touch... common sense being required to decide when the wheel needs changing

I'm on about the chuck on the back of the spindle,this is a ludicrus idea because if thats going at full belt? I'd hate to be the person standing in its path.

He obviously has no knowledge of Lathes and centrifugal force.

The machine is designed as single function machine, it's not a general purpose lathe anymore. As long as the extension is straight there's no danger. There's no centrifugal force as long as the shaft rotates about the centre of gravity.

Ah but,RTB the distance of the overhang from the bearings face to the end of the spindle is 2",you cannot go beyond the bearings and by the looks of it he's taken the spacer and the two locking nuts off which only then leaves us with a 2" section of the spindle with thread for locking nuts...now then how do you think he's attached the wood dowl?

It's not really fair to accuse someone of being an idiot behind their back, and less so to dream up more and more reasons when the previous ones are proved incorrect.
