Hayter self propelled mower transmission oil?

I am refurbing some spare Hayter double 3 parts I have. The transmission unit has been left upside down and has leaked oil. I cant find any reports about which oil or how much these take. Any ideas? I am tempted to half fill it with EP90.

Haha. I agree. I just wondered if it would need some kind of fancy grease. I presume its just a gear drive and nothing hugely complex in there?

ep90 will be fine if you have some.

Yep. Got loads. Any thoughts as to how full? The top isn't hugely well sealed - just a plastic insert, no actual seal, so I suspect if i do too much it will find an appropriate level?

Done. Thanks everyone. I am just fitting it to the working machine so i can test it. Feels good by hand though. The stuff in it looked a bit like the thixotrophic stuff you get for later land rover swivel joints (earlier ones took EP90, so if it is that stuff, this should be fine!)

Seems to work. Its a bit sticky to disengage, but it hasnt been used for at least 12 years and has been stored under a tarp for a lot of that time! Hopefully it will free up with use. The stub axle bits on this one are better than those that were on the mower so there is less play in the wheels on this unit. I can have a play at repairing the old one now.
