Have you ever seen such a lathe?

So I was at Science Museum National Collections Centre yesterday installing a rack for a 100 year old Cambridge eight and this was there. the place is amazing, could spend days there looking at everythin.

"Have you ever seen a lathe like this?" Not for a long time, I think it was on display at the Science Museum in a exhibition dedicated to the history of robotics some ten years or so ago.
The exhibition was quite eclectic and covered early machine tools, autometer swans, the difference machine right up to Robbie the Robot, ABB and Asimo.
I found if fascinating, my kids were less impressed.

I never went into the science mueseum part of the building when I worked at a museum that keep their collection there , the science museum got the place shut down and the bomb squad turn up as they were auditing the collection at one point and became kind of concerned that a load of ww2 bombs they had in the collection might not have been made safe.

Ow how every one laughed that day.

They were talking about moving all the museum storage out of london about 12 years ago, looks like they have decided to do it now.

The Society of Ornamental Turners usually have a stand demonstrating ornamental turning at model engineering exhibitions. Well worth a look even if you're not into the subject. Actually the ME exhibitions are well worth visiting even if you're not at all into model stuff.
