Have I got carried away again?

Well I've be looking for a fly press for a wile today I bought this:

It's a bit bigger than I had in mind at about 6' tall and looks heavy. 1 of the reasons I bought it is because it looks like the proper old fashioned engineering you don't see any more.

I have no idea of age, tonnage or manufacturer so if any one could shed an light I would appreciate it.

Now ware am I going to put it.......

That is one stonking Fly Press kida, i so would love one, but even a small weighs enough, good luck moving it. sorry cant help on make etc but its a good 750kg,,, thats in weight lol, of the ball.

Moving it shouldn't be too hard I'm used to it now It's not the first time I've got carried away.

Good God man. You definitely don't do things by halves. That's a monster in both size and likely weight. I'd be surprised if one strong bloke could carry just the handle and weights alone.

A place I worked at a long time ago had a similar one, it was too big and clumsy to use and took up too much room, was last seen heading off on the back of a scrap lorry,
I would take the screw out of it and stick an hydraulic cylinder in it, fitted with a simple up down manual control valve would make a decent power press

It was cheaper than scrap, I plan to use it for pressing bearings, bending sheet metal and probably a bit of hot work and it might be ok for splitting logs.

It will be AT LEASE a 10-15 ton press on that, they are governed by how hard you can throw/push them! I don't think you will be breaking that beast, nice tool. <this handrail was made with a (much,much smaller) flypress,cold.

I have one about a quarter that size (maybe - but probably at least 1/10 the weight) - a 6Tonner
It took four of us to carry it into the shed, and onto the bench.
I'm 17st, and (was) a competitive power lifter, and was the smallest of the group.
I'm guessing thats a 15T? 20T?

You'll be able to forge 3/4" mild steel cold - don't bother with the hot work, unless you're forging ship anchors

Well I've been and collected it today went well till the unloading part. I lifted it off the trailer with my tractor all was ok until I went to move it, driving down a ramp and the back wheels came off the floor and seen as tho the only brakes are on the back. I nearly ended up soiling the seat but I got the press down on the floor quickly before I crashed.

But overall I'm very pleased with it, according to the makers plate it was made in Germany in 1934!

Ok it's only took me just over a year but I've finally got round to makeing a home for the press, I started to move it yesterday from the corner of the yard ware it's been sheeted up.

I've had to dismantle it a bit to make moveing easier.

What do you think of this for a screw? It's 75mm dia 50mm pitch 3 start buttress thread!

And the fly witch is at least 1 cwt, I wonder how many heads it's made friends with in the last 81 years.
