Have i bust my reg

Hi people, thanks so much for this forum it has really helped me get a grasp of this welding thing... i had two weeks of mig welding at a friends work shop then started playin round with my dads arc welder for a few jobs and now i have just jumped off the deep end and got myself a telwin 200/2 mig 4 years old off gumtree for 240 quid.... im pretty pleased but i dont even know if its a good deal or not but im still pleased ...


Right so the fella give me a regulator for the gas i went and got a big bottle (mansize) of carbon dioxide from my dads bar there appears to be plenty of gas in it but when i attach the reg the dial read 100 bar and no gas is coming from the torch but if i dis connect the reg and just turn it on the gas the gas comes out of the cylinder.....

I have asked my dad and also contacted the place where i intend to get argonsheild through BOC and they both said the pressure in the co2 might have been too much and i could have broke the reg..... it this possible and how would i know ??

is the a big hand screw bit on the front if so that's what adjust the flow rate. 100bar is high for CO2 are you sure it not a mix gas for larger?

You might have answered your own question here? ie whats the max bar pressure of the reg?

Has it got a male or female thread, if its got a female thead on the regulator, it should be suitable for C02...

If you leave the reg fitted to the cylinder, but take off the hose from there to the welder, does any gas come out?

That will decide upon it being the regulator or further along the line....

mmm not too sure do you mean the gas is a mix gas or the reg is for mixing gas...

the reg has a male thread which went straight into the gas ..... im away out now to remove the line and see if your tip works will let you know asap.....

Thanks for the advice guys .. im now super happy cause it turns out i was screwing the knob on the reg "out" and not "in" it only works when its nearly fully in.. and the reg is not bust because i followed the advice about removing the airline to see if its working ..... im also happy cause ive had beers



am going to go and read the full mig welding guide and get cracking you people are awesome.
