I'm hoping that I may be able to get some good advice from those that are clearly in the know with these things.
With a split window camper to restore (hence my username) there is a considerable amount of welding to so I need to get a basic starter welder (without spending too much cash) so that I can get practising and start welding!
So to this end I bought a cheap Sealey Mighty Mig 100 (gas) knowing that the motor "needed some attention/replacing".
I plugged it in and the motor does indeed not turn so I took the mig welder apart to check with my voltmeter that the motor is getting power.
From what I can see though, apart from the light which says the welder is on, none of it is getting power - nothing happens and no noises are made when pressing the trigger.
Also it was immediately apparent that the dials/switch wiring on the top of the welder are not connected and there are 3 lose wires in the case where they should be attached to - would this be enough to stop it all working?
Also I have discovered that the glass fuse on the PCB has been wrapped in foil - why on earth would someone do this?
So ultimately, can it be repaired (is it worth it) or shall I just got shot without trying?
Would love to hear any help that people can offer.
(i've got some pictures which will be uploaded shortly)
