Has anyone tried one of these?

Given my inability to cut straight lines with a hacksaw I am currently considering the purchase of a cut-off saw.

I have spotted this on the MM website, but, I must confess, I'm a little skeptical!

Has anyone tried one of these? And, assuming so, would it be suitable for cutting steel - box section and angle?

As always, any help / guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Fury 2 which was more money and I don't think quite a good as that one, anyway...I've not used it a huge amount but when I have i've been impressed, much quicker and easier for smaller stuff than my power hacksaw, neat clean cuts and very rapid. Admittedly the biggest thing i've cut is 5x50 flat bar, but it flew through it. As long as your not cutting really big stuff then go for it. They are noisy though.

Thanks for the tip. I thought these things claim to cut without friction and heat? Truth be told, I was always very curious about that statement.

The piece is cold, but the chips are pretty toasty. They stick in your hair, go all over. When they ping yr throat it's quite noticeable
Definitely ear defenders and googles or mask etc.

I've got the sliding mitre version of that. The blade is getting worn now probably a bit earlier than I'd hoped. But it's very versatile. Just put partitions and made benches & tables for a shed and sorted a fence, as well as metal choppage. Dead handy.

Did you read the Machine Mart description which will be taken from the manufacturer's literature? It says "Easily cuts Steel, Aluminium and Wood (even wood with nails), using just one blade"

I suspect the manufacturers know their product.

No sparks with steel, just chips, and it does cut steel/ally/wood fine off the single blade. Blades aren't cheap though, but the one does do it all.

so it would have an average rpm to be able to do all that with one blade and not make a mess of any of it . that is impressive

You mean an average rpm that works with all 3 I guess, in which case suppose so as it's a single-speed saw. The cuts are clean and straight, better than an abrasive chop saw from what I've seen of those (and no black stuff to breathe). Works well, have used it for all 3 as said above.

Those rage saws are ok. Great with wood and ally - bang on. Can't say i'd be too enthusiastic about using them on steel stock of any thickness as it's cheaper to replace abrasive chop saw discs than evo rage saw blades.

Dont bother trying to cut any stainless steel with the multi purpose blade . yea you can buy a stainless steel cutting blade (at a price) but they are rubbish
Ive gone back to an abrasive saw cheaper to run , especially if you use smith and arrow discs

I guess these cheap chinese imports are ok for diy use . You wont want to be buying new blades when the time comes tho !

All those are good points, for my home use it's been fine though and I don't mind the blade cost vs the work it's done and being able to do wood saves forking for another tool. Definitely a DIY-standard thing, some of the fittings like the wobbly clamps are comedy items... One or two I tried in the shop had slight play in the slide too.
Mine was loads cheaper than the MM price, came from B&Q of all places.
