Has anyone ever fitted stronger strap hooks to truck body

What is best way to fit stronger strap hooks down either side of dropside truck body

drop sides have a habit of pulling in when you strap down and with drop down sides you dont get much pull down when your strapping down

best to have eyes within the drop down sides for better strapping down of items

Fit some of the folding/flush mount eye plates into the floor or at a low point near the hinges on the inside of the sides

Or you could strap the load down before putting the sides up.

as above , bit of a fiddle working straps between the sides when down and getting on the hooks , but it is the strongest way to secure load , unless you put internal load points in, if you do make sure they are fixed to cross members not just floor boards.

I use loops of chain bolted down to the sides or floor, never had any issues with this and we lash down plant on these trailers.

Not if its not a hgv, strictly speaking yes, but who is going to inspect it?

Only problem would be in the event of an accident caused by faulty loading points. So do it properly to start with

There are fold down flush hooks made for the job, I don't know if they are available
where your at.

They are very careful with the description here Fred, not many of them carry a cert and at best are only as good as what they are bolted to. Of the eight of that type on my IW trailer I think only four haven’t been ripped out.

It's up to the installer to "Make it right" and install to take the load to the frame.
An idiot can screw up anything.....

Fred over here they call them lashing rings and rope hooks, only any good legally for sheeting up. As @Pete. will tell you the police here can fine you for every one used to hold down a load .

does your trailers have bed eyes which are welded to the chassis on the trailer like the wagons do ?

we have the bed eyes as well on trailers there not just at the sides like the pic 8obs just posted up

My trailer does not, I have rub rails like on semi trailers. There are pockets for 2x4's, spaced 2' or so, and between them is 1/2" x 2" flat bar on edge, where I loop the chain
or strap.

I use both 2" wide ratchet straps, and 5/16" transport rated chain with load binders.

Indeed if you put a load holding ratchet strap or chain on a rope hook and DVSA (formerly VOSA) pull you, it'll be £100 fine per instance.

Some trailers have them, see them on dump trailers that also have slide out ramps.
They are a pain to use, they get in the way, and are a trip hazard.

These are popular to carry a skid steer or compact loader tractor to a job (tree trimmers and landscapers especially) to the job site, and then run loads of refuse to the dump.

End of day, come back and take loader home in dump trailer.

Detachable gooseneck lowboy trailers for heavy equipment, have heavy forged rings that are welded to the main beams, and they lay flat (sort of).
As well as different schemes on the sides for chaining up.
