Happy New Bandsaw

My new Clarke bandsaw came today, got it from Machine Mart on vat free day
Didn,t realize i would have to put it together but it was quite easy really, i understand what people mean about the stand/legs, talk about flimsy, when the warranty is up i'll have to build a decent frame and legs.

You just need some decent blades now Sid .
Dragon Saws are the people, give them a ring, they'll ask you what you'll be most likely to cut and recommend a suitable blade. They cost considerably more than those el-cheapo carbon steel ones but are far superior and one blade will most likely outlast several C/S ones if you look after it.
I've got dragon's blades on both of my saws and I'm really pleased with them.

I havn't tried to cut anything yet, it was getting late when i finished putting it together, i'll try it tommorow, got some round ally bar to cut.

Those carbon steel blades are next to useless Sid, I got through so many before I bit the bullet and got a couple from Dragon, very knowledgable chaps and their prices are pretty good too.
A good tip is to either get yourself a can of spray coolant/lubricant or do what I do and get some soluable cutting oil and mix some up in an old washing up liquid bottle, anything you can do to keep the blade cool will prolong it's life .

I was in Dragon saw blades place last week picking up some new Bi-Metal M42 Blades and I'm very pleased with the new blades.

They work out of a small unit (I thought it would have been bigger) and are very helpfull. They were making a bandsaw blade for a saw mill when I was there, 1 tooth for 2 inches. The blade was 20 ft long and four inches wide. Biggest blade I've ever seen.

I also got blades from dragon saws, excellent customer service and quick delivery,
I got the Bi-Metal M42 blades and they are far better with over 200 cuts without coolant and the blade is still cutting great.

Sandy, thats a neat little saw, i agree with you about the chop saw think i might sell mine cos it might be redundant now.

I think i'll keep it for now, i know if i sell it i will regret it.

Whatever else the chop saw may be (loud, messy etc) it is good and quick. And plenty accurate enough, with a few modifications!!! I've welded up a bit of tube onto some plate and bolted it underneath the clamp. Then I have another bit of tube (~3m) which fits into the other and has a sliding stop on it. I've made markings all along the 3m tube for the measurements I use most frequently. There's a bandsaw lying around somewhere but the clamp is hopeless and it's so slow. There's also a really, really old reciprocating hacksaw somewhere and that's even slower but much more accurate. Quick enough if you balance something heavy on the top!
