Local company wanted £950 to fell 2 dozen 30 foot Leylandii trees so I asked Santa for a chainsaw. I just need a shredder to mince the branches up after salvaging the trunks in 10 foot lengths for making a compost bin. Birthday in January, so, any recommendations for a 'mincing machine'?
150 mixed baby trees on order. Beech, Hornbeam, Crab Apple and some others. Anyone bored enough to come and visit me? (Bring a spade.)
Don't cut the bole off at the ground ,leave it seven feet tall and strip off all lower branches then use a 2 tonne winch or a chain hoist to pull out the lever left on the stump , anchor to the biggest stump . Use a maul to cut any awkward roots once they have surfaced .
On the final stump anchor onto all the other boles and root balls or use anchor pins and a drilled angle iron body .
The roots will come out like rotten teeth with little or no effort. Once they are out chop off the root ball at your leisure.
Hire a shredder once you have a massive pile of carefully laid branches to shred .. let the hire company bear the cost and most of the wear.
