Handrail Brackets

Mild Steel handrail brackets - the weld-on type with a round backplate for screw fixing to the wall.

Whats the minimum clearance between the face of the wall and the back of the tube. Building Regs not giving me any minimum dims - around 80 - 85mm i think.

Anyone know of a site etc to get some dimensions for these handrail brackets?

There is a link to a 1.5Mb pdf download of part M building regs here that says 60-75mm from wall. Page 26

Don't know about other dimensions though.

Depends what your rail is.... i think the clearence between wall and inside of rail is a minimum of 60mm.... i normally do brackets 100mm to centreline for 48mm tube or 50mm flatbar, brackets need to be 50mm or so high i think aswell.

Bit of a brainteaser getting your head round the measurements on that pic! I take it it's saying the centreline is 67mm from the wall.

Yes, marked up by a salesman by the look of it, I've used a lot of their products and the drawings are pretty accurate.

Being trying to find a minimum stair width anywhere in b regs. These stairs are awfully narrow (Not ours!). No recommendations seem to be given.

It's Student Accomodation - Stair ends up at 763 wide between rails. Hmmm.

They make student accom stairs narrower than standard, so they cant fall over when theyve been drinking

Not sure where flats stand, id imagine, same as a single dwelling...? Sounds like they have made the most of the space!!

What centres would you put the brackets at? 42.4. CHS handrail.

I'll have to get some pictures when we start - the showers are tiny. My mates a bit of a fatty - he was wedged in when he tried to get in!

Every 100mm so they don't rip them off the wall when drunk.

March 2009 we did that job. Can't remember what centres we ended up putting them in at. Never had to go back so they must still be on!
