cutting the work top was fast and minimal chipping
I've always used Bahco hand saws, top quality, fairly cheap & keep a good edge. My favourite general use saw is a Bahco 244 at £8. Last time I bought a 244+ which has a thicker blade & claims to be more accurate. Unfortunately the thicker blade means that it is a lot harder to push through the wood.I'm suffering from a shoulder injury so the new saw was used twice before I went back to my old thinner saw that's easier to use!

Cheers. I probably won't be doing another one for years... hopefully.. routers scare the crap out of me.for work tops i cut using a saw 1or2 mm near where it needs to be and then strap a piece of wood across and use a router for a perfet finish perfect flat and no chips on the laminate
A few months ago I purchased 2 Spear & Jackson panel saws from B&Q - they were on offer 2 for £8, they were also carp! Either the tooth offset was not great enough or they were not rigid enough, either way they repeatedly jammed. Go for one of the brands mentioned above.
I use a couple spear and Jackson from the 70's, and sharpen myself, they only take about 5 mins to sharpen,
You can pick one up on eBay for a tenner, And will last you a lifetime,
They feel nicer in the hand, and stiffer,
They are also not part of today's throwaway society
