Hand cranked kinetic art thingy

Not to sure what category this would go in so I'm posting here, made from bits and bobs I tend to acquire over time, a good sort out seems to stimulate me making something.






This is the rear view that won't be seen but shows the mechanism that creates the movement I'm after.
It's about half finished so a bit hard to realise what this is.

Trying to fit it into an A4 size proved very fiddly, but managed to just get it inside a frame. Screwed to the wall it's like a moving picture.

Reminds me of when I worked for a local auction house about 25 years ago and we went to clear a deceased estate, the house was full of sand powered sculptures. Basically a wooden box with a glass front with 2 dimensional wooden characters portrayed in various scenes. You tipped the box so the sand hidden in the back collected at the top and then turned it the right way up and the various characters played out the scene.
My favourite was a woman falling off a yacht into the sea and a lifeboat being launched to save her, just as the boat gets to her a whale pops up and eats her!
There must have been over 50 of them in the house all made by a retired clockmaker.
These things were making around £200-300 each at auction.

They sound fantastic, would like to see those and worth every penny I bet.
