Hammerite 50% off !

Just been to Halfroyds for a tin of Hammerite thinners and found they have 50% off all 1Ltr tins, paint or thinners, ie 1Ltr of silver usually £19 or so, now £9.99

So I came out with more than intended

Just like buy B.O.G.O.F at Asdas

I don't know how long it is on for though, neither did any of the staff

If once you use it and when not using it,turn the tin upside down so the skin forms on the bottom.

No spray cans, it appears to be any paint in 1Ltr's or 1/2Ltr thinners.

Aerosols are I think, 400 - 500 ml.

I had just popped in for a 1/2Ltr tin of thinners, the price on the 1/2Ltr was £4.49 ( usually £8.90 ), sat next to it was a 1/4Ltr at £6.40 ! put my specs on to double check and noticed the price of the 1Ltr tins was also 50% off.

My intended spend of £9.00 turned into £60

there is a company called coo var that also do a hammered finsh paint amongst others and 1 litre is 10.65+vat they even do a water based primer suitable for all metals

perhaps Hammerite are trying to boost sales that have flagged due to the lost reputation that Hammerite had. I've felt it's not what it was and many posts in other forums seem to agree on that point. It's certainly not as popular as it was?

the original hamerite was made by finigans and was like treacle it could only be thinned by there thinners or using carbon tetrachloride now banned it wouldnt thin with celly as it does now. its a good enamel for painting machinery ect but not much use on motor vehicles and realy needs a primer coat on 1st

It thinned with transport thinners.

HMG have a great product OCF70 , single coat Primer Finish in colours of your choice and it comes up in a nice 70% finish. Our customers love it and it's cheaper than Hammerite even with the offer which can't be bad?!?!

That's strange, I recently made a metal stand for a radial arm saw, tried to thin "Smoothrite" with celly thinners, to spray it, & it wouldn't mix at all.

Can you thin it with phosphoric acid to improve its anti rust ability? Will it mix or go funny, not ha ha funny but gloopy or milky funny !!
