Hammer storage/rack

Just a simple one, nowt special, but thought the general idea might be handy for other saddo's like me who seem to have a disproportionate amount of hammers. Already had a hammer rack for ages which I made, but that was a floor to ceiling jobbie which took up a bit of floor space in the workshop, so decided to make another one which was less obtrusive. Seeing as I was knocking together another bench/storage space, decided to string a rack underneath that. Gets the hammers out of the way, and the rack isn't hogging any floor or wall space now either. It's literally just taking up otherwise dead space.

It's merely a couple of 4' lengths of 3"x1" planed, screwed either side of two 1-3/4" risers which are attached to the front leg and the wall.

The First time I saw one was when the father in law was using it to hang a door. I asked what he was doing. The reply (insert scotish brawl) ey ye, hemmer yen in, n if ye wynt it oot, ya use there screwdriver.
He was serious as well

Neat idea. Need to build a rack for my bigger files at present shall remember that principle
That's not an area you weld or grind is it? Just looks one heck of a good place for a fire with rags. Polythene and wood

Nah Matt doesn't weld. Whenever he needs to join some metal he just uses one of his many vices and leaves it there. He's got plenty of spare ones...

My Father-in-law used to ne a chippy making railway carriages, buses and caravans. The screws were always the old tapered type with a straight slot. He always called a smallish hammer a screwdriver, and a screwdriver, a screw turner!

On another note, to see him with a push type ratchet screwdriver shoving in multiple screws was astonishing!

Are those hammers easy to get out?

Funny that, just the other day I was messing round in the shed and used my old Yankee spiral ratchet driver to finish a job as my drill was in the house with flat batteries.

It's stood behind that charger/starter, on the trunking.

Nah. I'm no welder, and when I do get round to improving my meagre abilities in that regard, it definitely won't be done in there.

Are those hammers easy to get out?

Aye. The shorter handled ones lift straight out; The longer handled ones just need tipping to the side slightly as you lift them out. I could have put the rails lower down to improve clearance, but that would have meant stooping a bit low to grab them, so I went for the comfortable height and a tad less top clearance.
