Halogen Heaters & Paint

Probably the stupid question of the day BUT:

How come you see work shops and mobile outfits using Halogen Heaters to aid drying/curing times, surly there is risk of a fire using them? Or am I wrong?

I got two Halogen heaters, one is a tall twin bulb plaster'ers heater and the other is one of those £10 3 bulb type you can buy in most places. Are these safe to use or a BIG no'no...

Our old friends H.S.E. Its a dry heat source as opposed to a naked flame so once the paint has flashed off its safe to use.
When i ran my business, (old skool) i used to use a space heater post flash off and i still have all my eyebrows and everything. Probably not safe if using celly as it is 50% thinner. 2k uses maximum 10%

What you see them using is infra-red short wave paint dryers and they can be used to preheat panels and speed up drying times. I use the hair dryer myself, don't hold it too close though.

That's ok, was just playing on my mind if I can use what I have for when I do my next job.

Probably about a month away from starting as I have so much to do before, the RD is coming along nicely, my frame looks unbelievably good thanks to someone local, been double braced with original braces beefed up a fair bit, to the un'known eye looks factory

Everything I do is small stuff for the bikes so next job is building a small booth just like the airbrush guys use, I'll have light, extraction, filters and hopefully able to add a nice bit of heat & dry what ever the weather.

Don't you find that you cause turbulence and blow particles onto your panel with any blow dryer?.

We have a couple of infra red heaters (redrads) to dry off primer before handling (Structural steel, so nothing as nice as you lot), worked well.
Once used a propane blow heater, positioned a fair way back....wondered why the paint wasnt drying, then realised we were melting the paint!

I used it to heat the booth but embarrassed to say I once melted someones mud flap with it.

The only drawback of propane is that it puts out a fair bit of moisture
