halfords welding wire

just went to halfrds for a 5kg reel of welding wire, halfords because it was the only place open at 7. so, picked up some .8mm and headed to the checkout, rung it up on the till and the price was, wait for it, 74.99!!!! , yes 75 quid for a reel of 5kg 0.8mm wire, and yes it was mild steel!, told them to check it again and that was the correct price!, told them i paid £15 for the same stuff the last time and they checked all the stock on the computer, turns out that they found the normal wire i was talking about on the screen and told me that it's now an obselete product, they now only stock the 75 quid wire,..............

they can away and hoop themselves if they think anyone will pay that price

no not a mistake, i was after 0.8 and so picked it up, but after the price confusion and saying it should only be £15, he rung up the 0.6mm wire (sip pack) on the till and it was oly £15 quid, he said it was the last of the line and wont be geting any more in, only the plain white 75 quid boxes are being used now...., but i tried with the trade card and it was still the same price

Agree with the others Bawjaws, something's just not right. There's no way on this earth 5kg of wire would cost £75, they've got something wrong with their pricing somewhere.
£15 a kilo?!! Bet that'll fly off the shelves!

I buy wire regularly there, it is always £15 for 5kg, I get is for £12.35 on my trade card.

I bought 5Kg of 0.6mm from them recently. As you say, about £15, which isn't a bad price at all. You can buy 5Kg of 0.8mm stainless wire for £75. Maybe that was the mistake someone made while entering the price? I can't see them selling any at that price.

Might go and have a look this week but my local Halfords often can't be bothered to price things up anyway, especially the welding stuff, so I'd have to have them do a price check.

If it's true - and I can't see it being anything other than a mistake - then I've bought my last reel form Halfords.

I did that years ago

I bought a reel of 0.8mm SIP stuff from there and although it looked ok it flatly refused to feed properly. Put a different reel in and ran it to the end with no problems whatsoever. Haven't bought it from there since.
Reluctant as I am to advertise this fact, if you're desperate for wire then B & Q also sell it.

i also agree that its not right, someone has deffo ******ed up, and theyre all clueless as to what their normal price's are, and tried bandq, couldent find any welding stuff so asked someone if they sold weld wire, they pointed me to the soldering stuff! , but anyway, just away to get some from a normal shop just now.....

Was in my local one at the weekend, 0.8mm 5kg was £14.99, same price as 0.6mm.

Must have been a mistake on the till.

Are you sure you didn't pick up Stainless by mistake? Or the dopy Shop assistant didn't look at wrong thing. Just a thought.......cannot see how it can change so drastically.
