Halfords selling half empty bottles?

Hi Guys,

I am new to welding so forgive me if I am wrong.

I bought a half used bottle of argon from HSS and it lasted for aaaaaaaages. Then when it ran out I went to Halfrauds and bought a bottle of Argon from there. All I wanted to do was cut and weld an exhaust.

I cut the 3" pipe, welded it back on and it ran out. Didn't even last long enough to re-attach the bracket.

Has anyone else had this? Where can I get gas that doesn't last 5 minutes.

If it's a disposable type bottle then they don't last very long at all, about 10 mins if that.

Is there a way of attaching a re-fillable bottle to my little welder? Are there any adaptors to make them fit?

Its not uncommon it could a year or more before these find their way from a foreign factory onto your welder, As RD said they don't last long anyway!

I supose it depands on what your machine is?

Though I'm sure if you do a search on the net you might be able to find some info on it.

One of these is the sort of thing you would need (pic from another thread this one is for co2 possibly from weldequip).* On the end you can see the push fit adaptor that goes onto the small 4 mm pipe. I think they are around £10 for just the pipe.

Gasman, who can supply me with argon/co2 on a non-contract basis, got a small project on the go which is likely to use quite a few disposable bottles.
