Just developed a fault, was using it ok, switched it off to go and make a cup of tea, came back and its doing this. Just heats up what seems like way too hot but displays static number. Tried a factory reset but still the same issue.
Any ideas? Main body fault or iron fault?

We're you using it prior to turning it off ? Does the fan carry on for a bit when switched off ? , you may have overheated it then , I leave my welders running for a few minutes before shutting down !

It just gets switched on and off. It doesn't cool down before switching off. The temp is set and I leave it at that.

Yeah. All ok. Was working, switched off, made a cup of tea, came back, switched on and this happened.

Yeah, tried a couple of different ones.

Sorry I thought the tip had the thermocouple in it but it seems that it’s in the heating element. Possibly the thermocouple has failed and it can’t detect the heat so continues to keep it powered.

Look at the Checking procedure in section 8

I'll check those resistances later

I would guess a "main body" fault. If it was the iron I guess it likely wouldn't read a temperature at all (or it would be the minimum or maximum number)

If you unplug the iron what happens?

I get the S-E error

Whatever temp it's reading is definitely wrong, gets up to temp, probably over temp but reads kinda random temps from 10-50.
