looks like the steel he uses comes on a roll, almost as thin as thick paper- where would we be able to buy that kind of thing? is it a grade that standard steel stockholders will supply?

Looks like 0.5mm stainless, maybe 0.9mm, should be widely available.

Love those keep promising myself I'll have a go at something kinetic, if you want 0.9mm sheet metal a good motor factors should stock it as it is widely used for car bodywork repairs.

Not convinced by them, very nice very clever but they seem somehow sterile.
fantastic workshop though.

if you look at the photograph of his workshop there's a huge roll of stainless sitting on a stand, didnt know what thickness you had to go down to, to get it to roll and unroll on a big reel like that. still think the 0.5 might be a bit inflexible - and still come in 8x4 sheet.

i understand where youre coming from in terms of feeling they're sterile, chunkolini - i had interperted them as cold - and if i had to attribute an element to them, very much of the air - concieved with deep dedication of the mind, but slightly out of reach because of it - absolutely not warm or earthy like so much of the art which i surround myself with, but still - i think they embody that methodically created, airy, slightly aloof beauty quite nicely though, and there's definitely an artistic process in their creation, so i think they stand up in their own right.

personally, i do prefer art i can clamber all over and get involved with, something more down to earth - but these are great to helping the mind wander.

i had a look at your website, loved the ants, didnt realise it was you who had made them until i came one here - very nice, and aye, a fine example of the total other end of the spectrum of the fluttery air art sculptures from new zealand! i love how deeply connected to our world your sculpture is
