Gurgling spraygun?

when i was spraying some primer with my gravity touch up gun all was going ok for starters.

then i could here bubbling or gurgling back in the cup and loss of paint spray

what could this be please, what caused it and why did it happen?

haven't used a spray gun for over 30 years!

Don't know about gravity, but when that happens in a normal spraygun it's often the vent for the paint container. The bubbles are air trying to replace the volume of the paint that has been used.

On a normal gun the vent is a little pipe sticking out of the top that can be cleaned out with welding wire. There will be one somewhere on the gravity guns. It's probably at the top in the cap.

I'd say it's more likely to be a blocked air cap, not disimilar to putting your finger over the nozzle/aircap

Steve, did you clean it out before use??? if not, give it a soak in thinners and see what comes out!

blockage somewhere, vent hole or cap are most likely, or if the gun is old...ish maybe a failed/sticking o ring seal internally

clean perfectly & apply a tiny amount of Vaseline to the springs & o rings etc.


also check that the filter in the bottom of the cup is clean & in place

you will need to unscrew the aircap as mentioned above then remove the nozzle you will then see the blockage.
if you leave paint in a gravity gun all the pigments and filler if its filler primer settle down into the gun body and requires stripping down to romove it

the gun was brand new unused, so i suspect a loose nozzle but will check everyones suggestions.
