gunwash thinners without acetone...

I've bought a Wagner 350M for spraying oil based alkyd paints. Yes it's more of a high end DIY system than a pro setup, but been reccomended it and it will do what I want.

Except the manual says

Coating Materials Suitable for Use:
Dispersion and latex paints for interior use.
Water-based and solvent-containing lacquers and glazes. Paints, oils, release agents, synthetic enamels, PVC lacquers, undercoats,
base coats, fillers and anti-rust paints.

Coating Materials Not Suitable for Use:
Materials that contain highly abrasive components, facade paint, caustic solutions and acidic coating substances.
Flammable materials, materials containing acetone or cellulose thinner

So... normal gunwash contains 10-30% acetone and in theory isn't suitable... also guessing they're using viton seals in the system, going by the look of the spares, so acetone will ruin those seals.

Question is.... what SHOULD I use? The Wagner website is no help at all! I could order a load of Xylene or Toluene... or any other suggestions?

Thomas Grahams thinners is Xylene. Not sure if its suitable but its a source if you can use it.

I've just given up worrying and ordered a load of Xylene, it will work as thinners and gunwash, if it's not strong enough for washing I'll add a small bit of standard thinners for a bit of extra kick Hopefully not enough acetone to ruin anything!

Just an update on this, the 350M worked great last year for spraying heavy alkyd paints, put about 120 litres of paint through it.
I thinned with xylene at first but it reacted with undercoat so switched back to white spirits.
I used a lot of xylene for washing the pump and lines, worked a treat. No adverse effects apart from the suction hose softened over repeated days of exposure, hardened back up once cleaned and dried.

Not much cost difference between white spirit and xylene, next time I'll try white spirit alone as gunwash as it's a bit safer to handle than xylene.

What about standard thinners. I find that removes paint residues a lot better than xylene

it has a good chunk of acetone in most blends when you look in the MSDS/TDS.

Basically I should have bought a more expensive pump, but... this one works and was very cost effective
