Totally agree with you. Sometimes the price is right and you just want to pay the money and get on with your life. The constant penny pinching drives me crazy sometimes.

Just greedy
I could not agree more. The number of house/antique programmes on television which constantly harp on about 'making a profit' is nauseating. I am usually doing something else when they are filling in time behind/beside me, but like the popular phone-voting shows, it is simply annoys the fing life out of me.
?How upset would you be if you had been bartered/bullied down, only to see that person sell the item for five or ten times your eventual selling price, beamed around the world?
I am looking at the 5th anniversary of my mentally enforced temporary retirement from the workforce, and last Wednesday, while eating my sandwich at my bench at work, I was thinking about what had lead to that point, and actually said to myself that it was no wonder some people cannot 'understand' this world and decide to finish it in their own time. It had not crossed my mind until then. I did however realise that I do not think I was/am equipped for the world as it is. I have not done 'well' from my jobs, but have always been happy in them, until five years ago. I am paying my mortgage, have no other debts. I do not know what else I need. Well maybe ......
I was talking to a webmonkey a few weeks ago, and he was bemoaning the same thing. He explained that 'records' are only held for a certain length of time/number of posts, since it would need server farms bigger than the known universe to store all the LOLs and ROFLMAOs that circulate.

I went right through this with the guy. I said when the price was agreed over the phone that I won't be going any lower. I don't mind people trying to go lower it's all part of the game but turning up with less than agreed in your pocket assuming I'll just take it is just a waste of my time and really out of order. It would be nice if a private sale could be a trust worthy call but the minority spoil it.
Having had some totally time-wasting cr*p experiences with Gumtree in the past, last night restored my faith in human nature somewhat - seller was 'of an age' with myself & had listed items at a very realistic price. On my arrival, he went right through (guitar & amp) with a full demo & complete history since his purchase new 2 years ago (only selling as he needed space for his new kit) . Even found original boxes in his loft for secure travel home & threw in various extras as well - an absolute gentleman & to cap it all, emailed me this morning with confirmation that he'd removed them from his Smartwater account & forwarded full scanned receipt which I'd left behind. I'm impressed!
Honest folk are still out there - shame we have to put up with the numpties too!

Like Mike (the dealer) on Wheeler Dealers, always offers a stupidly low price for the cars, I wonder how many out takes there are where the seller tells him to eff off? I know that would be my answer to some of his offers

That man ruins what is essentially an interesting show. I like the bits with Mr China and SWMBO likes the explanations he does as he's not overly patronising. Mike Brewer can do one though. Knocking people down like skittles and then beaming hig mush into the camera with the "I've bought an X!". Now, that's interesting. My Mrs hates all of these kinds of shows and normally buries her nose in a book or the ipad on the rare occasions when I have control of the remote.
But I was watching wheeler dealers a few months back and caught her watching Edd China intently - when I asked her why she was watching it she said "he makes it really interesting - he'd be a fantastic teacher!"

Yeah - that! I've already explained one of my Mrs' upsides - one of less-so-up-side was when we moved here in 2012, there was a 3x car garage with an 11ft ceiling in the back garden (yes, literally - the guy had concreted over the garden).
Unfortunately, she insisted on knocking that garage down and reinstating the grass
I now have to make do with a too-small (aka "standard") garage, which defo doesn't have room for a lift.

Unfortunately, she insisted on knocking that garage down and reinstating the grass

That was actually posited as a serious suggestion! There's a hill behind where the garage was and I suggested extending the hill onto the roof
But then she muttered something about the 11ft garage blocking all the light to the rear of the house, and not wanting to stare at 500 sq ft of concrete where the back garden should be

I'd love a 2 or 4 post ramp. Life would be so much easier. We looked at a house with an inspection pit once. Didn't buy it but often wondered how useable they are.
Whenever we clear out junk it goes to charity. Daft really as we have given away good furniture that would have made decent money. However, we have been let down/ripped off by the Salvation Army and British Heart Foundation in the course of it, so even that wasn't without it's pitfalls.
I am put off Freecycle by all the stories about folk reselling stuff or asking for delivery. Most of our small junk goes to my Rspca mate for her fairs.

My only experience with inspection pits was my Dad's for his haulage business. It was really useful but very damp and a pig to clean out if you spilt something down there. As he was five foot and a half inch (don't forget the half inch, at five foot it makes all the difference) then the pit was not too deep - everyone but him smacked their head on the job all the time.
