grounding a van roof

I'm going to be filling in a hole on a van roof at the weekend but I'm wondering where to take an earth, I have the clamp type and a magnetic one too but I don't really want to grind a spot on the guys roof although if needs must I will, does anyone have any ideas or can I ground it lower down like on the under side of the vehicle?

You probably could pop the cap from the top seat belt mounting and grab the bolt, failing that you can earth where ever you like it's never made a diferance for me.

You'll make it a b@@@@r to unscrew in the future if it arcs at all

Any exposed bolts or studs inside the van? My Vito has loads of threaded holes for all the optional kit fittted to other versions of the same chassis.

Your going to burn , grind the paint were your filling it right? So just tack a little something on in that area, I assume your using a copper backing or have a plug to weld in? consider that as a potential place also. I don't like too distant a return especially so on vehicles.

I have machined a small pin with a flared end to place in the hole then fill up, I like your idea of tacking a tag onto the area, thanks

if the pin is long enough just clamp it with some mole grips so you can hold it in place and put the clamp on the grips

If it is a white van, just connect the earth to the bumper bar of the car it's following, it will be close enough to get continuity

Could you disconnect the battery and earth to the negative cable?
