You still need a good free draining under base to stop soil that's wet being squeezed up through the grids ,Google "grass mats" we use them at the stables, the horses can eventually punch through them due to point loading, but car tyres would be fine.

Though using them I'd put down 250mm of compacted very lean mix say 12 to one as it will drain and not overtime form hollows where the wheel sit.

They are good, but it gets expensive to do a large area, Mrs Robo has some in front of the field gate where the horse waits to come in.Mudcontrol mats are what the horsey set use.

Their ones probably are. But the idea is well-respected in civil engineering. As above, look for more professional suppliers.
You will likely need a geotextile membrane under them. This helps greatly to spread the load and prevent intermixing.
