Grinding wheel help

I am looking to grind plug welds flush, or there about. I cannot find any grinding disks for my air tools that are thicker than about 0.125".

I saw a TV show where it looked like a 2" grinding disc with a thickness close to .500" was used. Has anyone any suggestions on where to find something like this? I need to use it in a tight space so the 2" or 3" max is needed.

I have many plug welds to grind and it would make things go faster than using what I currently have. Thank you in advance.

2-3" max wheel diameter is what I am looking for.

You could use a mounted stone on a die grinder if space is a problem.

The stones I've used don't hold up very well. They seem better used for finish grinding and touch up rather than grinding the head of the plug down.

Have you thought of using Roloc sanding discs? Clicky

I use them all the time at work for grinding down butt and plug welds on the repairs I make to Minis and other assorted classics. They last very well and give much better finish than a grinding disc.

Yes I use the Roloc discs also. The problem for me is the tight area along where the floor plugs to the under door area. I cannot use a 90 degree air tool here so I need a straight shaft to access the area.

If You could make up a arbour like your existing one but with a longer shoulder you should be able to stack 3 disc giving you 3/8" of width (worth doing if you already have the discs)

With a 40 0r 60 grit belt it would fly through the job. If you are using fine grit mounted stones in a die grinder they will soon disappear, you need the coarse ones usually grey coloured and from a good maker not the ebay or diy shop ones in a kit.

I've thought of the power files but don't know if the belts last or not. maybe I could stack a couple of the wheels together if I can figure out how to extend the mounting point. Thanks and I will give it a try on both.

I use a powerfile nearly all the time for dressing welds -using the roller at the tip gives great access, very precise control and quick metal removal. However, you must use Zirconia belts, as supplied for instance by johnt1102 on Ebay. Silverline or B&D AlOx belts will disappear in no time!

i use a power file, on akward to access welds, buy the blue belts for stainless as they last ages longer.
as long as you avoid sharp spikes they last as long as most grinding discs... definate must have tool in my box.
