grinding down weld

Hi,

JUst wondered whats the best way to finish weld off? Im not grat at welding but doing some on my car, so using the technique of weld and grind weld and grind.

Just wondered what the best way to grind it down, I have a metal grinding disc, but its rubbish and cause more damage than i fix.... any help appreciated

You'd want a flap disc, or better still, fibre dics with a backing pad.

Grinding discs are for heavier material removal, for delicate work like cars, they arn't really suitable.

I usually use 40 and 60 grit flap wheels,and find them to be excellent and long lasting too.
Look on the Smith and Arrow web site,they are cheaper than those you mentioned, Check out ebay for flap discs, they have a listing on there as well

great suff will get some.... prob is i'm leaving big chunks of weld that need grinding down will it be ok ?>

Yes, they work well, or these

I find theres less chance of dig in with the later.

I dont really do car bodywork, opinion based upon general thin sheet metal useage.

40 grit will soon shift it.

Do they fit straight on a grinder?

The flap discs do, but for the fibre discs you need a backing pad, bottom right of the same page.

Id be inclined to get both, flap disc to remove bigger lumps, then the fibre disc to blend it all in.

Another vote for flap disks here. They even make my welding look good!

I would not reccomend silver line abrasives. Their flap wheels have hardly any meat to them.

I realy like these discs:

As they allow you to actually see where and what you'r grinding. I found them especially usefull for grinding welds on thin sheet metal. Reduces the risk to grind the metal too thin.

Fibre discs are great too!
