Greetings to you all! I'm about to get started with MIG welding as my hobby, considered it much more fun to do things with compared to my previous hobby. I'm really looking forward to getting started and I am loving the photos other users have been posting.

Youl find it gives you a pain in the wallet and the backside sometimes did the trains do that too!?

It can be, depends where you find the raw materials

To be fair it was starting to get that way too, with the costing/value of certain items it was getting very cost prohibitive. Justifying £65.00+ for any given locomotive was becoming a bit ridiculous.

I came away from model railways because I'd turned semi-professional with it about a year back working in conjunction with a shop owner (who has since ceased trading) and discovered a vat of worms full of self professed politics...the whole 'I want this train (toy) done last week' syndrome.

My nature is one of being relaxed within a hobby, and not taking it seriously. If I make a foul up...just laugh about it, correct it, and move on.
These days, within a lot of the model railway community, if it's not right first time...well you can guess what happens

Having played about with metal before I've made a return to it...much older and a tad wiser (open to debate ) I did some fabricating making a holding bar for my lighting effects unit and smoke generator a few weeks back with some scrap parts. No welding at the moment, but I actually enjoyed it!!

For the first time in my life I enjoyed doing my hobby, grinding the paint off a bit of box section, drilling holes through it, two days of enjoyment and I'm still loving it

theres alot of hobbys that have cliques in them non more so than the car scene, iv taken nearly a full year out myself and dont miss it at all.

any ideas if it will stick mig or tig youl be buying?

MIG initially, probably for a few year whilst I get my bearings with it all (and get better finances saved - saving to move to Whitby too) then I'll step up to TIG too.

A gent I spoke to at work said TIG is a much stronger weld compared to MIG but that'll come in time.
