Greetings from a newbie and a question or 6.

Please do be gentle with me I make flower pot holders and other small items of garden furniture from 13x2mm and 25x3mm mild steel. I have been using an arc welder to make the items BUT, trying to get the stick into small areas etc was doing my head in so, I got a gas/gasless mig welder rated from 30 to 135 amps. Question. It came with 0.9 gasless wire and 0.8gas wire. What would be the minimum wire speed and amps setting for both wire sizes to weld 2mm thick stell to 3mm thick and 2mm to 2mm etc and so forth for the sizes of wire. I know gasless is meant to be pure garbage but, I am up for a challange.

You don't mention the make, sounds like a Clarke?

If it is then you would need to be on one of the 2 top power settings out of the 4 available for good penetration.

Wire speed is whatever works, my own Clarke tends to run between 8 and 10 on all power settings and very minor adjustment can make a world of difference....I can go from the nice sizzling sound to the torch jumping with only half an increment change on the dial.

It seems a lot fussier than my portamig was but once set right welds perfectly.

To get it spot on just have a go with some scrap bits until the welds look good and the wire feed feels and sounds right.

It's got 6 power settings then, same advice as already given really, for 3mm you will probably need to be in the top 2 settings.

Ok, will start on the second to last setting with my hand on the wire feed speed doofer and have a play, if it ever stops raining.

Once you have used it for a while it would be of benefit to write a review of how it works and the quality of operation etc.
