Green Oak Shavings

So, got a few more tons of oak to plane up, and currently the best idea “the boss” can come up with is emptying the bags of shavings in to the bottom of hedges, or on to a neighbouring farmers “ransom strip” along with everything else that gets dug up.

So, other than in a smoker, what ideas or uses does everyone have?

They’re green oak, full of tannic acid, and turn almost everything black or if it’s steel, rusty.

Anyone want any too?

I can relate, being a woodturner in my spare time. I work with locally harvested green wood, sycamore and beech and am always looking for eco-friendly ways to get rid of the shavings that fall to the ground.

Know anyone with hens that might appreciate some..?

stick them into a press with sawdust and crush them into a block or tube they make great free wood to burn

If so give it to them.

If you were closer I would have had it to slow down burn on the wood burner abit

Have hens at home so brought a bit back with me. Also in the process of building a warm smoker out of a pair of those fancy orange/red cylinders that no one seems to be interested in having back.

Will see if any horsey folk are interested, but I though it reacted with their urine, and can cause burns?

Just asked Project Management as she has one of them bottomless money pits; horsey folk would normally prefer dried shavings - damp or wet shavings wouldn't absord the horse pee.
