graphite powder dry guide coat?

I plan to use some fine graphite powder as a dry guide coat (personal preference) on HB primer before flatting back.
Do you think there is likely to be any issues with overpainting flatted primer?

Cannot logically see any issues as all (in theory) graphite powder should be sanded off the primer before applying top coat.

no issues if you use a dry guide coat; however im not sure if they are actually graphite powder????

if they're not then i cant say about reactions; i would to a test sample first but your theory is wrong; if you have low spots or deep scratches the powder will remain in these areas. if you get it all off then yeah you should be fine.

Graphite is essentially pencil lead so often used to ring pin holes etc. Hoping that when completed no low spots will be present
Historically, paints seem to adhese to pencil remains so I am hoping all will be ok.

Officially marketed products like 3m dry guide coat is graphite based with limestone and activated carbon and carbon black. This is much much cheaper option. Will soon find out if ok

3M sell a graphite powder with a sponge so i wouldn't think there would be a problem, I've used it as i have some here but i still think an aerosol from a distance is still the best.

rattle can are definitly simple and no argueing with you on that one but this method simply wipes on with a sponge, no waiting til dried and does not clog up the paper when blocking.
I tried it this morning and all visible traces of graphite gone after blocking. Cost me aboyt £7.00 incl postage for 350g bottle. 3M about £20 for 50g so much better value for money and very happy with result. Will get some primer over it later after final prep so will see for sure of any over-coating issues.
