is it just me or does google photos seem hard work.?

You cant just download photos and delete what you download.

You set it to backup and it gets full and then affects google mail.

Once I work out how to get my photos off there I will not be backing them up on there again its more trouble than its worth.

Its not as if I am a total mug. I managed today to update the eprom and hex files on a sattellite system using a USB to serail converter which has not been done before But google blinkin photos is getting me pulling my hair out.

It’s because it’s Google, all it wants to do is track your every move and steal all and any info it can about you and your online presence . God luck avoiding it

All photo's from my phone including ones i've loaded onto it from my dslr have been backed up on google photo's for years and i've never noticed a problem with gmail. I've had a gmail account since 2005 so I don't know if that makes a difference. The main problem I have with it is the overall amount of photo's on their now it's a pain finding them if needs be.

I usually use the local google drive folder and if I select and cut pictures from there to move them to my PC it works fine BUT

you do need to clean up, if you right click the google icon in the system tray (windows) then click "Visit Google Drive on the Web" select the "Bin" and then use the drop down on Bin to "Empty Bin"

Resolution of the pictures may affect what you use, according to my PC I have 9.8Gb of photos which is 3k+ files. According to Google Drive on the web I am using 127Mb out of 17Gb. This is because I let Google adjust the resolution of the photos I upload so they usually end up 3456 x 4608

I prefer to pay for services...that way I'm buying a product.

When something is free that usually means you and your data are the product!

I use iDrive which points to a dedicated hard drive I've setup....anything I want backing up in the cloud I just drop onto that hard drive and iDrive does the rest. It's fairly cheap I think too + it's encrypted too!

I have a 100 gig in dropbox so I dont need google photos. The problem is I can see a quick way to drag them all off and make sure I dont lose any.

Its not as if you can get rid of the stupidly large icons and or drap photos to the desktop.

I just selected todays 5 photos and they want to download INSIDE a zipfile.

I have stopped it backing up. (even though it would not anyway as its full but I would have thought a third party program to recover all the photos in one hit would be around by now..lol

Yea...for free they give you not enough storage then hammer you for the extra!..then all the messaging starts!

Think I pay £5 per month for 2TB...I have a matching 2TB drive in my desktop. All photos get put on that drive which auto backs up so I have them locally and backed up.

Bit over the top but lot less hassle...if you want instant access then a local drive is better I think.
