Watched the Lavant Cup race with all the proper racing cars, and damned fine it was!
It took me back to the 1980's when me and my big bro used to watch truck racing at Donington, and in those fledgling days of the sport, before the silly money brigade ruined it , owner/drivers would drop their loaded trailers before putting some tape over the headlights and getting out on the track. And at the end of the weekend, accidents permitting, they'd hook the trailer back on, probably a 40' tandem axle flat with a sheeted load , and head off down the road for a Monday morning delivery.
We used to stand at the bottom of the old hairpin, and in those days you were a lot closer to the track than nowadays. The sight of a 6 ton artic tractor unit hurtling towards the bend was always a bit , even more so when the driver got it wrong and caused the crowd to scatter .
