Good straight to metal paint

I’m looking for a good straight to metal and paint to paint some railings I have been powder coating them with a. Zinc undercoat but I’m finding the powder coating is quite fragile and scrapes or chips very easily so I’m looking for a alternative

I used the Lidl stuff on my gate and am waiting for it to come into stock again, as the gate's in need of a freshen-up after some years.

Got a tin of black metal paint in lidl a few weeks ago. Not used it yet but it gets good feedback on here so thought I'd grab one. My small trailer could do with a freshen up so will test it on that.

I'm using the Lidl Baufix one for well, everything at the mo. Bean frame, tool cabinet. So far it's gone on bare steel, over powder coated stuff (roughed up) and just now roughed up zintec. Did an old galv wheelbarrow a couple of years back. Lasted surprisingly well.

Seriously now...

A couple. I found rollering the first coat on gives a see through but "tacky" first coat. The subsequent coat covers better

Just putting these gussets on. The box section was I think powder coated and that had two coats of Baufix black after being keyed. The gussets were zintec. Keyed and primed with Pro-cote zinc. Then a top coat of Baufix black aerosol "varnish" according to the can. To me it looks just like the spray version of the paint in the big tins. Had a reaction just below that bottom rivet. Think that's where some rapeseed oil came out of the box - used to lube the 3D printed connectors. I'm not overly fussed. Could though he where the zinc wasn't dry.

I use paintline machine enamel for most my painting from railings to steel frame buildings, about £4.80 a litre 5 or 25 little drums

I have used Aldi straight to metal paint, with good results. Found the aerosols covered better than the tinned versions. Pretty hard-wearing. They aren't stocking it atm but Lidl had their version out a couple of weeks ago. A friend used the Screwfix own version on their gates and thought it was decent.

There's some mild steel hollow section fence posts I made up and painted with left over machine enamel from work in my mums garden - been there 25 years with no maintenance - old rust spot, but still look okay.

Same paint on some 10mm thick chequer plate offcuts from work that hold up the 2ft deep part of her rear garden from falling into next door - again, still looking good after at least 20 yrs

Rust oleum combo colour is quite good. Easy to apply, decent finish and lasts well.

Lidl had 1ltr tins in stock today, but only in white - I'mm looking for the green.....
