good quality hardtop for navara

looking to see if there are any decent quality, hard to break into hard tops for a double cab navara d22.

if I cant find one for reasonable money I will make one, but finding the time is difficult.

at the moment it has an ifor Williams one but it doesn't lock and comes off with a crowbar or a good swing with a mallet. ideally I would like to be able to keep stuff in it overnight such as the stuff you would leave in a van overnight

It depends how far you want to go, locks only keep honest people out.

I think an ifor Williams would be the most secure if it was fixed down properly a and some sort of lock on the back.

All the truckmann type ones tend to be fancy these days with windows so people can see what's inside.

yeah ive looked at truck man and arb and they look crap to be honest, goo styling but loo very flimsy and easy to get into, especially as you say with all that glass.

the ifor Williams I have is the basic galf steel tub with the weld mesh door. it has a hasp for a lock but even with one of my better locks on it I can still get in without too much effort.

might have to modify it to give it a solid door that reaches down inside the tailgate maybe and locks to the bed

I had a partial design in mind before buying it as I didn't count on finding one for good money with a top on. pretty much the same tub as an ifor Williams but with twin van style doors on the back and no tailgate. doors would be internally locking like van doors from the central locking remote and so on, but that design is flawed in many areas so it went out the window. might have a play around with some mdf and see what I come up with

I take it you have used one, I borrowed a truck with one fitted before I bought mine. I hated it, anything more than 2 foot in and you couldn't reach it (I'm 6').

So I bought a lid instead, Colour coded to the truck it look factory, all parts of the bed where accessible, and could be lifted off by two people. I was going to fit a SS rack to the top but never needed it so it never got built

I was considering a lid to be honest, one of the ones on rams that open up quite wide but then I cant put the dog in the back. im not too keen on the hard top but im afraid where I live even if I left an inch of frayed rope in the back it would be gone withing 30 seconds of me closing the front door to the house

out of interest, how secure was the lid? I can put the dog in the car if needs be lol

I've seen a lid top with mesh sides and back. The security was minimal but no different to any that where available at the time (2004ish)

think i'll stick with the ifor Williams and modify it then. also just been considering getting rid of the crap mounting system (soe bent bits of rod the poke into the liner) and welding some box section to the inside of the tub then welding the bottom of the box section the the bed of the truck. would make it very difficult to crowbar open

Get a lid and put the dog in the back, Mr Pikey's going to get a surprise when he crowbars the lid open!

don't get me wrong, a brilliant gundog, will retrieve anything from anywhere, but just assumes that everyone is his friend lol
