Golf ACC issue

I am looking at buying a friends Golf as my land rover is now off the road for a rebuild as the chassis rot is just too bad.

He says he is worried there is an issue with the adaptive cruise control and the dash message says ACC deactivated (or something similar). He says it is intermittent.

Has anyone on here experienced this system/fault and maybe a fix? I am allergic to main stealers.............

My old one did the same, check the sensor in the front bumper, mine had a broken mounting so only worked when the sensor was in the right position.

Thanks for that - I had read a few reports like that. Did it need any expensive recalibration or just fixing securely?

Get an independent VW specialist to plug it in would be my thoughts

To be honest it was a company car that was handed down to me, I kept asking the lease company to fix it but they never did and it went back to them like it. I imagine it could of been repaired but no idea what would be involved . Sorry.

the front radar sensor needs to be calibrated with an adas system, you need car on a lift and have special targets set up to carry out a basic setting on it, usually when that system is working fine you will get that message up when you leave the paved road to one without road markings

I have the correct VW approved ADAS calibration rig......... Bosch DAS3000.
To meet current legislation the 'repairing' garage must be IMI accredited to conduct the calibration as its safety related and needs to be signed off to meet insurance requirements.
Car has to be loaded with fuel (full tank) and tyre pressures set correctly.
calibration rig and car must be on a level floor surface.
Suitable diagnostic equipment required to initiate calibration procedure.

Can be a bit of a fiddle if the radar is miles out!

Would suggest getting the ACC fault codes read and competently diagnosed......... As previously said, brackets can break. We've also seen damage due to pressure washing sensor and clipping kerbs with bumper! Insect debris can also be a factor but most probably not at this time of year!?
