Gmc v3500

Not sure where to post this, but it is to do with a future project so here goes.. I've got a 1989 GMC V3500 and I'm looking to put a (water) tank in it. Anyone know how much weight these vehicles will take?

Will start a thread about it when the project gets up and running (and probably have loads more questions too)

3500 should be a 1 ton rating. 2500s are 3/4 tons and 1500s are heavy half tons. Gross gvw should be on a plate on the inside of the drivers door or door pillar.

Cheers fellas, guessed it would take more than that and wanted to put a big'ish tank in it (1800L), but I suppose by the time I load it up with gear 500L is about as big as I'll get away with? want to make it look nice, ally or SS?

A liter of water weighs 2.2 lbs x 1800 comes out to near 2 tons. Factor in the weight of the tank, hose, couplings etc and that poor chevy will be sagging a bit If its a dual wheeler it may have a payload around 4000 lbs so a 1500 lier tank might not be out of the question.

What about trying an IBC they are a 1000 ltrs 4ft x 1 mtr x1mtr ,aprox
try one of these fill up with water see how it sits with this in,,,,

I've had a quick (crude) scale work out on google sketchup, and I think that a 1200L tank will go in there nicely. I've worked it out as 1500mm (L) 1000mm (W) and 800mm (H), although I might have to tweak those dimensions depending on how I want to design the tank and interior.
