Anyone know how to contact a human?

Tried to log into an old gmail account but had forgotten the password, tried a few I could remember but no good so tried the "forgotten password" option but it came back "account not found". Not to be defeated I thought I'll just re-register it, but when I enter the account name it comes back "account already in use" all the help options seem to be "tick box" options and I end up getting the same answers.

Any suggestions?.

Gmail accounts become dormant after 6 months of inactivity and are deleted after a further 3 months.
Once deleted the address is up for grabs so it could have been re-assigned.
One way to keep the account open is to have it on an iPhone or android device that checks the account automatically, the account doesn't have to send or receive mail in the 6 month period but you must log on to it to check for mail.
