Glue Remover on Ally

I have finally got round to doing up an old GSX1100, still got a few jobs to do but mainly cosmetic. I need to replace the crankcase emblems as they have been worn smooth. I have just taken the left side off and found a large amount of what looks like baked on contact glue. Has anyone got and ideas on how to remove this without damaging the Ali casing.

Try some AutoSmart Tardis on a small section to test - it should dissolve it OK as I've read some use it on their alloy rims.

Petrol should be a good solvent, or try WD40 that may work.

Try Methylated spirits, if that doesn't work try ISO Propyl alcohol (obtainable from Maplins). Neither will affect the aluminium. Failing that white spirit might do the trick. Don't think petrol is option, wouldn't make any sense on a petrol engined vehicle. The hot air gun also suggestion sounds good.

CPC do glue remover also label remover might work

I'd try petrol or hot air gun - as they're things you've probably got to hand. Not both at the same time though.

Wire brush on a drill then thinners, dust sheet required over the rest of the bike.

Take the cover off and leave the glue part soaking in thinners for 15 mins..will fall off. Nice ET btw

remember iff you take the cover off i think the stator runs in oil on that motor

Stator does run in oil, if you do remove the cover remember the gasket!

Thanks chaps, I've been putting it on with a paint brush - repeatedly , but it's doing the job slowly but surely. I will take the cover off for the other side.
