Glazing car body filler putty advice.

Hi all. Never used this glazing putty but it looks like good stuff .
Any recommendations on brand ? Buy the look of things it helps over and after filler ?

ive always known it as stopper, if you have rubbish filler and it leaves loads of holes you can scrape a real thin smear of stopper over it to smooth it out. but tbh you can just do the same with regular filler or just use something decent to start with like u-pol fantastic. last time I used stopper was 20 years ago.

Only one I use is upol dolphin and it's good...better than putty because it's a 2 part mix so like filler once it's gone off its job done. No worrying about things shifting about!

It's basically a very thin liquid filler...works well over filler or primer. Used with epoxy primer and celly base and was all good.

I use to use the old school cellulose putty in a shoe polish tin or tube, rubbish, it used to shrink and crack.As above dolphin glaze is the dogs danglies and works well.

Use a decent filler like upol fantastic and use it as stopper as well if necessary.

Yeah I use u-pol fantastic with good results for myself and wasn't sure if it's the done thing after filler etc.

Early body fillers were made of quite coarse particles to allow it to be shaped and as such, one needed a finer particle filler to "stop" or skim a light finish and take care of the little air pockets. Modern decent fillers like the fantastic are much finer so negate the real need for stopper.

Dolphin Glaze is perfect finishing but can still get tiny pinhole if unlucky.
The other go too if top-stop gold.

Indeed. If I'm doing a large area and have doubts, and sometimes tiny imperfections in a panel that just need filling, I would use top stop

if youre getting loads of pinholes that need filling then youre doing it wrong , blow off each coat of filler with an airline , then make sure its not full of holes before using a decent primer

I use Lechler Spat o Rapid stopper. Does a good job but it's £6 a tube and you only need a tiny bit. I wish they did Fantastic in smaller tubs though. Everybody raves about it but I'd never get through the big tub.

I brought the big tub of fantastic it was cheap enough. Never had any pin holes up to now . I was just over thinking as I had watch a frost restoration video and they seem to use it all the time.

It also keeps for years or you could pass on/ sell what's left to someone else on here. Normal filler hardener works fine with it and can be bought separately.

Everyone round here seemed to use a sikkens 2 pack stopper, Polystop.
It's beighey coloured and very smooth.
I had a mate who used to use a squeggee and glaze whole
panels with the stuff. Then he sanded the lot off!
I would walk round with a sharp scribe picking away any dodgy spots of filler and
then squeegee it over the spots. I changed to Upol D and it seemed to work fine.
I switched to usig UpolD as stopper.

Everyone probably used it as three of the local paint shops in the area
sold Sikkens in the 80's.
