I've been asked to make a spiral staircase using glass treads,to allow maximum light thru i want to keep the tread supports as discreet as possible was thinking of a frame of 40x25 angle[the treads are only 600mm long] with a seating of a rubber strip,i'm guessing the glass needs to be about 30mm thick.has anyone else made structures supporting treads in this way?

Not the same but I built a terrace floor which was above the dining room in a round section of the house.
Think of a box of processed cheese with the segments seperated out a bit.
Each segment was held by a galvanized angle frame that was 5mm deeper than the 25mm glass, then set in silicone, so the glass was level with the frame. Out in the weather, so had to be watertight.
Diameter of 'wheel' was 3.0 mtr. IIRR.
Need to make sure there is no contact between the frame and the glass.

I masked up the glass for the squeeze out and spent a while with sharp blades tiding up.
The angle was set in cast concrete, so not unsupported. That end of the house is circular with pillars running up through two stories and terminating with a ring on the terrace at about 2.5 mt high. Between the pillars are windows glazed in small glass panels. Very art deco.
I talked to the glass people about thickness and they said 25mm was OK, but did scratch their heads, as they had not seen anything like it.
I might have a pic of the house, but not of the glazing.
Just doing a cellar light for installation in a pavement. 650 x 380mm x 30mm thick. Made from 3 x 10mm laminated together (very neat, no bubbles) Frame is SS angle with the same 5mm gap for the silicone and flush top. Again, it must be rainproof.

The house is 1600km away from me at the moment. On Google it is 37.118573 -8.531168. You can just see some of the segments not obscured by furniture.
As for the cellar light,I will put up a pic at the end of the week. I have the glass. The frame is bits of SS waiting to be welded,in the queue....
