Gib strips for a mill?

In my excitement at getting a mill today, I took off the XY table and put it down, before moving it to the back of the car.
At some point in all that, I appear to have lost one of the Gib strips.

The one that's still there is about 3mm x 9mmx 140mm.

Is ther enything special about the strips - are they mild steel, tool steel, or something else, and where does one buy these things - My mill table is very sloppy, so I can't make one yet...

Never mild steel, it will rub and gall. Either bronze or cast iron.

Flatness will need to be good, scraped or ground ideally.

I suppose I was half right?

Should have realised, My Bridgeport mill gib is cast.

Plenty of steel gibs in machines, just use somehing decent. I use gauge plate if i have some the right size.

3x9x140 sounds like a mini mill gib, should be able to buy that.
