Getting rid of the bend

As per title, I have just bought 12.5 Kg roll of 1.2mm stainless 309L mig wire and want to mainly use it for dissimilar metal tig welding. Does anybody have any tips and tricks for getting the cast out of the wire for tig use. I have a set of off-set rollers that are used to straighten electrical pyro, something on similar lines may work on the mig wire,I'm hoping somebody will have a nice simple method that will do the job.

Thats an easy one I often do it, cut a length off about a metre will do, hold one end in the vice, and the other in a cordless, pull gently on it and slowly twist it with the drill until its straight.

As paul says. I wouldn't bother with just a meter, roll off 10m 20meters one end twisted around a nail/screwdriver etc, held in a vice or held by a significant other, the other in a drill, pull tight and spin, every so often slowly release the tension, if the wire has been twisted enough it will stay straight as a die. If you release too quickly or dont spin enough, you will end up with a birds nest. (It's how you straighten wire for suspended ceilings)

You can also use this method for combining more than one strand to make in effect larger dia wire for welding

Cheers lads, Simple and effective, I often do it to twist two or more strands together to make a thicker rod, but never crossed my mind to try it on a single strand,My £15-00 wire is looking even more of a bargain now,

I sometimes cut my metre rods in two to make them easier to feed, especially the thinner ones.

I will have to try that. I use mig brazing wire with a tig, to cheap to pass up at a quid for a roll!!! I tried twisting multiple strands, the problem I had was it's really springy and ends fly out as it melts, eventually catching the tungsten.

ebay. and the bloke has a storage unit on a farm near me so no postage costs. But it is only a little roll.
