Getting coded, courses on offer, so many question's!

I'm sorry if this has been asked a lot on here. I live in cornwall and have been welding mig and tig stainless steel now for around a year.
I can weld quite well, how ever, i was due to go back to cornwall college on a part time evening course to get coded but it was canceled due to not enough interest....

Great.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of anywhere in the south west that would perhaps due a short intensive course? And also.... do you HAVE to be coded to work as a welder.
I am trying to change my career, but doing this while working seems to be a bit difficult.

It depends what field of welding you intend to specialise in. What kind of work are you looking for?

Hi, I would be happy to get work in a mig environment at the moment, welding mild steel over 5 mm. But eventually i want to be in the Tig stainless steel industry working within the marine sector. Obviously right now, i am still getting used to the opportunities around within the welding industry, and there is a lot of things i want to try. But for now i just need to get my ticket in all joints in what i have mentioned.

A lot of the marine industry don't use coded tig welders for handrails etc. but they do for sea-tubes, fuel tanks, stuff covered under Lloyd's etc. are there any fabrication firms nearby looking to take on welders? It might be best approaching them and asking which codings would be relevant and help towards getting a job with them?
Showing you're keen can count a lot towards getting a start in the first place.

Eventually i look to enter the marine sector, however, i do not expect to run before i can walk. I had a job interview with a company that builds ships in Cornwall, using mig and stick. But they said i need to go away and get coded. I have emailed a few companies, and i am waiting replies etc...
I did a course at college, and was told i should aim for tig as it would open a lot of doors. I was due to go back to the college to get coded, however due to not enough interest on the course they canceled it

There is quite a few firms in Cornwall i am going to approach, but trying to get coded in Cornwall is proving to be tough ..

Speak to Pro Weld (Plymouth), they are a very nice company to deal with, Paul and Phil are on good terms with me and have a wealth of useful contacts, I'm sure they will know of someone local that can assist you and they may have some insider knowledge of where some jobs might be had.
