Well, what a day it was yesterday! Firstly around mid week, i decided that the horrible looking sill on the drivers side of the car needs to go...and have a complete new one placed in. The sill cost me around £18, and I have all the right equipment to carry it out on my driveway. I began by jacking the front and the rear up level, axle standing each side evenly. I drilled some 5mm holes in the corners of the old sill and got my monodex cutters in there and cut the old sill out fully. (Used the cutters instead of the grinder and 1mm discs to not annoy the neighbours too much!
The old sill came off, the inner sill wasnt bad apart from the rear section nearest the back tyre. That had rotten away along with the rear most corner of the back sill. Had no 1.6 sheet so this was plated in 3mm! That wont be going any time soon! I used this 3mm to build up the rotted end of the inner sill where the jacking point is. The new sill was coated with several layers of anti stonechip + shutz inside and out before being welded on.
Sorry for the lack of detailed photos, we all can imagine what an old ford can rust like.. Plus I left my phone indoors, as rolling on the ground in dirt and metal filings might of damaged it. (I'm 25 and feeling 4 or 5 hours of kneeling, rolling and lying on the floor the day after!) Also had to come off the job to help my younger brother who had been knocked off his bike by an old doddering moron (looking like a write off, police were involved and turns out to be car drivers fault.
